Carolina Running Company is owned by Greg, Belinda, and Brian Elmore. On August 1st, 2009, our son and Brian's brother, Taylor, was in a fatal car accident. Taylor loved running and was always planning the business he was going to start-up. This coupled with our passion for running and desire to support the local community is what motivated us to open a race timing business. Our vision is to continue to grow our business beyond just race timing and help build a culture of running in our community.
Greg - (the jack of all trades and owner) Grew up in Florence, SC, and left during college to join the Air Force. He held multiple assignments across the world and was awarded the Air Force Combat Action Medal, Purple Heart, and multiple medals for valor while deployed to Iraq in 2004. After serving for 20 years, he retired and returned home to Florence. While stationed in Germany, he met Belinda and they were married. It was because of Belinda that he became interested in running.
Belinda - (behind the scenes, scheduling events, coordinating with race directors , and race photographer)Grew up in Elmira, NY, and ran track and cross country in high school. She held many highschool records and was known in Elmira as an avid runner. After highschool she ran at Northern Arizona State University and ran competitively while in the Air Force stationed in Europe. Belinda is a teacher for the Florence School District and actively helps coach with the Florence Track Club.
Brian - (busy with school but is at a race when needed) Was born in Biloxi, MS, and grew up living in Mississippi, Delaware, South Carolina, Texas, and Pennsylvania. It was in Pennsylvania that he joined and ran track and cross-country for Emmaus High School. Emmaus High School is well known for its cross country program. Emmaus, PA, is also where Runner's World is published. After moving to Florence, Brian ran for West Florence on both the Cross Country and Track teams. Brian has graduated from Clemson and is now attending Graduate School at The College of Charleston in Environmental Biology and then joining the Peace Corp.
Taylor - (the inspiration for Carolina Running Company). Taylor was a good runner, loved running, loved the people, and recognized the sport not just as an individual sport, but a team sport and a great venue to build relationships with others regardless of race, age, gender, etc. He was an advocate for those less fortunate. Taylor was planning on attending the College of Charleston to study International Business. He had a vision to start his own business. Because of Race4Taylor and all of you that help to support it, there have been close to 10 scholarships given to deserving Seniors and financial support given to The USATF Florence Cross Country and Track Team. Our hope one day is to open a running store that will also help support children in need and share with them a sport that they can always turn to and feel accomplished.
