This year's race was a great success and we expect our next race in 2014 to be even more successful. We had over 350 runners/walkers register from 6 different states last year. The involvement in this race isn't only making a difference in our community, but it's also helping our family as we continue to move forward in our lives after losing Taylor.
Our goal is to put on the best race in the Pee Dee and to continue to grow the race to include a 15k in the future depending on what the runners in our community want. In addition, we want to this to be more than a race but an event that includes bands, food, and a great opportunity to enjoy the great people that make up the running community.
In the past four years since starting the Taylor Elmore Memorial Fund, the fund has given five $2,000 scholarships and three $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors to continue to pursue their college education, donated over $4000 to the Florence Track Club to encourage kids to get involved in running, donations to Camp Fever, and we annually sponsor high school students from the Pee Dee to attend South Carolina Business Week. Our mission is to promote running and education.
The race in 2014 will be on May 17th and our goal is to have over 400 runners. Please come join us as a runner, volunteer, or just spectator. Everyone is welcome.
Below is a video about Taylor. The voice at the beginning is Taylor's voice as part of a marketing class project. It's about "Water Walkers," a make believe shoe that allows you to run and walk on water.
